Mom’s “Minute Devo”–Monday, November 12th

But as for me and my “school,” we will serve the Lord!
Sound familiar? Of course, because it comes from the book of Joshua, when Joshua prophesied to all the nation of Israel and recounted how the Lord had led them, from calling Abraham out of Ur, to delivering them out of Egypt, to giving the 12 tribes the land of Canaan to possess! Joshua went on to command the leaders to ‘fear the Lord and serve Him in sincerity and truth, forsaking other gods, the ones their fathers worshiped on the other side of the Jordan River and in Egypt!’
He then gave all the nation a choice in Joshua 24:15 NKJV
“And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River,  or the gods of  the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”
It’s truly amazing he said this to the people that day. He was expressing God’s heart and his own heart. You see, God gives us a choice-every day, every hour, every minute-whom or what we can serve. Joshua was also giving them a choice and a voice, but determined that both he and his house WOULD SERVE the Lord!
Joshua did not force them, but exhorted them! As a result, he was behaving like God, who ALWAYS lets US CHOOSE what we do. Then, God acknowledges our choice by our voice, by what we say, by our words-our declarations about our choice!
We all, as moms, as parents of our precious children whom we have chosen to put here at Valor, are allowed to choose whom or what we will serve-the new nature or our sin nature? Will we succumb to selfishness, greed, covetousness, love of money, gluttony, complaining, dishonesty, disobedience, putting family, friends, job, or anything else above God including our children’s success, sports, TV, internet addictions, movies, cars, attachment to riches or material goods, anger, fear, unforgiveness, doubt, and dozens of other things? Or will we choose the Kingdom of God which is righteousness, peace and joy the Holy Spirit? Romans 14:17
On the wall in my bedroom, I have a plaque with Joshua 24:15 scripted on it.  Recently, I misread the words to say “as for me and my school...”  I had to look again and again, but then realized God was trying to get my attention about this idea of our choosing together, from each family within the school down to each individual parent, teacher, and student, whom we will serve!
We all must choose this day whom we will serve.  Then our collective choices come together to form the body of believers at Valor as our voices together declare: But as for me and my “school,” we will serve the Lord!

Will you join with me and agree for yourself, your family, our school?  The choice is yours…

Prayer:  Father God, help me today, in every choice to choose your way.  I declare I choose to serve you and all my household with me, even if it doesn’t always look like it. Help me to lead my children to serve you as well. I know you are faithful! Amen.
