Can Prayer Really Change Things? Jesus declared it CAN!
In Mark 9:29, Jesus makes a simple statement, after his disciples came to him asking why they could not help the boy with a demon. This story is also shared in Matthew 17:21 and most versions note by prayer and fasting! Below are a few examples from Mark. The last version speaks greatly to me, for it emphasizes that NOTHING else works!
New International Version
He replied, “This kind can come out only by prayer.”
English Standard Version
And he said to them, “This kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer.”
New American Standard Bible
And He said to them, “This kind cannot come out by anything but prayer.”
King James Bible
And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.
Christian Standard Bible
And he told them, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer.”
Contemporary English Version
Jesus answered, “Only prayer can force out this kind of demon.”
Good News Translation
“Only prayer can drive this kind out,” answer Jesus; “nothing else can.”
PRAYER CHANGES THINGS, Jesus declared it, and there are situations where NOTHING else works! The last few Mom’s Minutes have given scriptures to pray over your children and family. Now, I’m appealing to you to engage with our nation and the rest of the WORLD!
Our nation is in a crisis. Our government is at a critical juncture. New York has voted to legalize infanticide. Laws are being proposed in California and even Texas to prevent pastors from counseling on issues of gender identity or face criminal charges. We have our children in a Christian private school to continue to raise them up in the “nurture and admonition of the Lord,” but if we do not also “stand in the gap” for our nation, the generation around our children will not be able to stand, or understand TRUTH or righteousness, light or love.
Moses stood in the gap or breach for the nation of Israel, when God was going to wipe them out in Exodus 32, and as noted in Psalm 106: 23. Ezekiel 22:30 says that God himself “searched for a man among them to repair the wall and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, so that I should not destroy it. But I found no one.” God wants us to STAND WITH HIM and intercede for our leaders, and those in authority as in 1 Timothy 2:1-4 to Pray for All People:
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, 2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. 3 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Many more scriptures tell us about people, just like you and me, praying for their nation, their people group, their situation, and GOD INTERVENED!! He wants to show MERCY! HE is FAITHFUL. Are we? Am I? Do I take the time to fast and pray? Do I truly believe that it changes people, situations, history?
These next few days and weeks, many local churches are participating in church-wide prayer and fasting. Some are doing so for Lent, others for an urgency as God simply put it on the hearts of the leaders. To join in, some of our 8th graders at Valor are participating and choosing to fast and pray this Monday through Wednesday! Instead of eating lunch, they are going into the classroom and listening to worship music and will spend the time praying! Will we join with them?
There are many web sites which give scriptural prayers for our nation and for the nations. Please go to them to view specific things for which you can pray. We must not loose heart, for if we faint not, we shall reap in due season! Galatians 6:9. Light is SO MUCH GREATER than darkness and we are on the WINNING SIDE! Remember, Jesus himself told us that PRAYER CHANGES THINGS!
Blessings on your week and email with prayer requests or comments to firstname.lastname@example.org.
